not only ... but also ...
關聯連接詞，連接兩個平行成分（詞、片語或子句）。若 Not only 放在句首且連接子句，第一子句須倒裝（助動詞/Be/情態動詞在主詞前）；置於句中則不倒裝。兩邊成分務必保持詞性與語法形式平行。當連接主語時，動詞通常與靠近動詞的那一部分（but also 之後）一致。
範例：
Not only do we have a math test tomorrow, but we also have a history quiz.
我們明天不但有數學考試，而且還有歷史小考。
其他形式：
not only ... but ... as well
語氣較中性常見於書面或正式情境；as well 置於句尾或第二個平行成分之後。不可寫成「but also ... as well」的雙重標記。
範例：
She not only sings beautifully but dances well as well.
她不但唱得好，而且也跳得不錯。
not just ... but also ...
語氣較口語，意思等同，常用於強調不僅僅是前者。結構與 not only...but also 相同，也須保持平行。
範例：
The festival is not just fun but also educational.
這個節慶不只是好玩，而且也很有教育意義。

倒裝僅在 Not only 移到句首時才需要。當 Not only 在句中時，不可把助動詞放到主詞前，也不需要加 do/does。

當使用倒裝的句首 Not only 連接兩個子句時，「also」應放在第二子句的謂語前，而不是放在主詞前。
