關聯連接詞，連接兩個平行成分（詞、片語或子句）。若 Not only 放在句首且連接子句，第一子句須倒裝（助動詞/Be/情態動詞在主詞前）；置於句中則不倒裝。兩邊成分務必保持詞性與語法形式平行。當連接主語時，動詞通常與靠近動詞的那一部分（but also 之後）一致。

倒裝僅在 Not only 移到句首時才需要。當 Not only 在句中時，不可把助動詞放到主詞前，也不需要加 do/does。
